Majority of the surveys and the analysis in Austria have conveyed that fact that users and other people remain misinformed about the difference between both the medicines. They are still unaware of the fact that these two medicines are different from each other and have different results after consumption. The drug compositions of both medicines are also different. Below given details are different researches that show that morning after pill and abortion pills are differently used.

1. Abortion Pills

During the year 1980, Dr Etienne Emile Baulieu, a Frenchman made the discovery of steroid hormone which is similar to the hormone progesterone which is commonly known as “Mifepristone”. The sole purpose of experimenting this drug is to cause abortion of an early level pregnancy. The consumption of medicine results in a pregnancy termination and is only used after pregnancy is established. The woman has to take the medicine within 70 days of her last menstrual period.

The medicine got approval by FDA (Food and Drug Administration) to be used in September 2000. The abortion pill consists of two different medicines, Mifepristone and Misoprostol. The former medicine causes the shedding of uterus lining and the latter one causes the uterus to contract. Both the medicine if used together with results in 95 to 97 per cent efficacy in terminating a pregnancy.

2. Morning-After Pill

The Morning-After Pill is a hormonal contraceptive which is used to prevent pregnancy after an unprotected sex or contraception failure. The time duration to take the medicine is within 72 hours of unprotected sex or contraception failure. The medicine contains progestin and levonorgestrel. The popular brand name of the medicine is Plan B. If you are already pregnant and you consume Morning-After Pill, then it will cause no effects, neither it will abort the baby, nor it will harm the baby.

What Leads to Confusion Between Both Pills

Much of the confusions start from the less knowledge about both the pills. Most of the people do not know how exactly Morning-After Pill (Plan B) works. They think that this is the other name of Abortion Pills, which is so not right.

Actually, Morning-After Pill lowers the chances of becoming pregnant by preventing or delaying ovulation in a woman’s womb. The pill interferes with the sperm movement to prevent the sperm to fertilize eggs. Thus, it results in preventing pregnancy.

Conclusion

The Abortion Pill is used to abort a pregnancy which is already established and is less than 70 days (counting from the last menstrual cycle). It is an FDA approved drug for terminating a fetus.

The Morning-After Pill is an emergency contraceptive pill. It is also FDA approved to prevent pregnancy. The medicine should be taken within 3 days of unprotected copulation to prevent the establishment of pregnancy.
